Scholarships & Awards

Every year, many deserving students in Waterloo Region benefit from the awards administered by the CFUW K-W Charitable Fund, which provides for scholarships, awards, and bursaries at local educational institutions.

The Charitable Fund remains committed to growth.  New awards will be added in the future as the club, individuals or families choose to endow scholarships, awards, or bursaries.

Member donations and funds raised by the club will be allocated to support club-sponsored awards that are not endowed or to enhance existing awards that have been endowed by the club, to maintain their significance.  These resources may also be directed toward the creation of new awards that align with the club's focus and the Charitable Fund's purpose.

Tax receipts for donations are issued by the CFUW K-W Charitable Fund.

Waterloo Region High Schools

• Dr. B. Mabel Dunham Award for women graduates with the highest grade average in six university entry courses (awarded at 14 regional high schools)
• Edna Haviland Award for women graduates with the highest grade in Grade 12 Chemistry (awarded at 14 regional high schools)

St. Louis Adult Learning Centre

• Hildegard Marsden Award for women graduates who plan to further their education

Conestoga College

• Conestoga College CFUW K-W Bursary for women in the practical nursing program

Wilfrid Laurier University

• CFUW K-W Margaret Dale Philp Award for outstanding in women in graduate humanities and social sciences programs

University of Waterloo

• Elliot T. Grasett Award for the third year student with the highest cumulative average in the four-year honours history program
• Women of Waterloo County Scholarship for outstanding first-year students who attended high school in the Region of Waterloo for at least three years
• Proudly She Marched – Jocelyn Cowan Scholarship for third- or fourth-year student in the health sciences who intends to pursue a career in medicine

Family-Sponsored Awards

K-W Youth Orchestra

• Parry Michael Zehr Memorial Award for strings players of promise in the K-W Youth Orchestra who intend to study music

Wilfrid Laurier University

• Lenia Chamberlain Memorial Scholarship outstanding in women in graduate studies in the filed of region and culture
• Lenia Chamberlain Memorial Music Bursary for first year undergraduate students in the Faculty of Music 
• George G. Blackburn Award for outstanding students of Canadian history who have completed third year of the honours history program
• Diana Cherry Memorial Bursary for a female student with financial need who overcame a personal challenge or obstacle

University of Waterloo

• Bernice MacCallum Hilliard Bursaries for mature students (full-time and part-time) with financial need
• James & Edith Davis Scholarships for upper-year students in political science or history involved in the university or larger community
• Ann & Geoffrey Power Award for students in honours biology with a interest in the study of vertebrates
• Winifred Walker Award for third-year pharmacy co-op students with a demonstrated interest in women’s health

How can I apply for an award?

All award recipients are chosen by the awarding educational institution. Details on how to apply can be found on the appropriate website for the institution, under their student financial support area.

How can I donate to the fund?

The funds that finance these awards depend upon the generosity of CFUW K-W members and the public at large through individual donations and from fundraisers such as the Annual Used Book Sale, which is held each spring.
